Yoon Hyup - In The City

Yoon Hyup - In The City

Using improvised line and dot to portray familiar skylines and dazzling city lights, Yoon Hyup’s freehand acrylic marks align spontaneously with the rhythm of New York. Ahead of our second collaboration, we made a short film to tell the story.

Yoon Hyup's paintings are a vibrant reflection of the urban landscapes he knows intimately, particularly his home for a decade, New York. Inside his studio, amidst an array of acrylic pots and a blank canvas, Yoon Hyup channels the freedom he experiences on the streets above into his brushstrokes. As he works, a blurred image gradually takes shape.

In the City, painted for our second collaboration, exemplifies his ability to capture the ambient energy of urban life. With an unspecified New York street as his subject, Yoon Hyup's art transforms a mundane scene into a powerful celebration of freedom and creativity. His work, born from the synergy of skating and painting, improvisational expression with flexibility, encapsulates the essence of New York.

For Yoon Hyup, skateboarding culture and playing musical instruments from an early age naturally inspired him to see his everyday surroundings from a different perspective.

His patterned visual language expresses cities as places filled with countless energy of the inhabitants. Whether inside or outside his studio, his mind flows with the rhythm of the city and beyond.
