Sarah Zucker

Sarah Zucker’s art blends futuristic and dated technologies into film, gifs and NFTs. Mixing digital and analog video techniques and VHS, electric pinks, blues and greens create NFTs and gifs. Their colours are rich with texture and are retro yet contemporary. This blend, she says “transports the viewer out of their present reality.” Zucker says, “I want to create multi-fractal parallel dimensions.” She uses video synthesis and feedback techniques, alongside analog VHS tapes. By mixing old and new technology, Zucker blends the past with the future. The effect is trippy, with motifs and caricatures, and vivid colours. Monkeys with crystal balls, mountains with eyes, frogs are psychedelic and mystic. They trick the eye and are mesmerising.

Zucker’s work transcends time. She is always “toying with the liminal space of inside/outside the screen”. Her editions make us look beyond our day to day perspective. In Self Transcending (2021), a person is in with no timeframe – into infinity. Both chaotic and harmonious, Self Transcending is about the yin and yang of transcendent experiences in the internet age. The idea came from reading about mushrooms and the mycelium network they create for plants to communicate and affect one another. Like the forest, the internet is made up of different networks and relationships. Zucker’s editions are one part of a large cosmic web.
