I’ve done many prints in the past, but have never seen any like these. What Make-Ready and Avant Arte have achieved is normally impossible in a print.
Lee Ufan
Limited edition
Edition of 150Three works from Lee Ufan's iconic From Point and From Line series are translated to a trio of new limited edition silkscreen prints. They launch in collaboration with Dia Art Foundation, for which the release fundraises.
Born in South Korea in 1936, Lee Ufan is one of contemporary art’s most influential figures. After founding the Mono-ha movement in Japan, he helped lead Dansaekhwa (Korean monochrome painting), where art is reduced to its essential gestures and materials. His renowned From Point and From Line series are influenced by his calligraphy training as a child – the meditative repetition of lines and dots requiring complete command of mind, body, brush and breathing.
Here, the printmakers at Make-Ready have rendered the contemplated gestures of the originals with the upmost care, consideration and quality – from the stains of linseed oil on the canvas to the fading brush marks forever suspended in time – echoing the artist’s own reverence for mark-making.
