Bio

Carrie Mae Weems is a Syracuse-based artist celebrated for her photography, video and installation works that investigate history, identity, and power. Her practice questions the dynamics of inequality and oppression in society, often using archival materials and staged imagery to challenge dominant narratives. A MacArthur Fellow, she has exhibited at major institutions worldwide and was the first Black woman to have a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum.
