Building the future of NFTs, block by block

“Whether digital or physical, art is an object that has the ability to have an impact on a viewer in a positive way, with my work being intended to make people smile.”

Erick “Snowfro” Calderon is an artist, entrepreneur, and innovator shaping the future of NFTs. Before Calderon became globally recognised as Snowfro, he ran a boutique ceramic tile company. He was always passionate about the intersection of art and technology and his early artistic endeavours included 3D printed sculptures, and video projections. It is no surprise then that Snowfro immediately saw the technological potential of blockchain. He started collecting NFTs before they were even called NFTs. In 2020, he founded Art Blocks – a generative art NFT platform that allows artists to build generative scripts onto the blockchain.

Snowfro’s most popular series is Chromie Squiggles – “originally, they were a proof of concept to demonstrate the seemingly unlimited variability of an algorithm, but over time they became a recognizable thing that I’m incredibly proud of.” Whether it's tiles or art, Snowfro is a minimalist. Chromie Squiggles are variations of rainbow-coloured squiggly lines – not unlike the floaters that sometimes appear in your field of vision. The snaking psychedelic worms are on a plain white background. The result is simple yet charming and fun. Moreover, as the first Art Blocks release Chromie Squiggles represents a technological leap – a new way to both create and distribute generative art.
