The making of Magnetism 25
Translating Magnetism 25 into print was a meticulous process of craftsmanship and precision. Led by printmaker Anastasia Vavilova at Make-Ready, the edition came to life through complex artworking and printing techniques.
The print itself is highly textured. At its core, the central piece was made from 258 passes of archival pigment ink, each layer adding weight and presence until the cube stood almost sculptural, casting shadows that shift with the light.

Translating Ahmed Mater’s artwork to print began with careful artworking to map out its textural elements.
A total of 25 layers of archival pigment ink were layered to create the composition.
At its centre, the core was formed from 258 layers of texture. The result achieves a rich, sculptural effect.
In collaboration with Ahmed, we meticulously perfected the gradient for the surrounding details, which represent the iron filings. These elements were printed with 25 layers of ink, enhancing their depth and intensity to achieve a 3D effect.
