Heaven is For White Men Only, originally painted in 1973, marks a monumental shift in Judy's practice where she began openly expressing that she was a woman after nearly a decade of trying to hide her gender.
An ode to intersectional feminism, Heaven is For White Men Only consists of multiple "flesh bars" which represent different races and ethnicities, cross-hatched to symbolically gatekeep the blue sky behind reserved only for white cis men – "which was my understanding at the time then and is certainly my understanding now when the manosphere is taking over the world again."
The print is embellished with a silkscreen shimmer layer, emulating the hypnotic irradiance of the original large-scale painting.
