In this new limited edition print, Keita Morimoto opens a portal to Tokyo at night.

Evening Embers, originally painted in 2025, depicts a scene from the artist's studio neighbourhood in Tokyo, with geometric shapes inspired by Japanese Kanban architecture. The piece features a quintessential motif in Keita’s practice: a window softly lit from inside. For the artist, the window represents a portal to another world, nodding to the pre-modernist idea that a painting is a 'window' to another space. Inspired by the work of Edward Hopper and William Eggleston, this piece captures the quietly transcendent magic of everyday city life.

The edition features silkscreen-printed gold shimmer details, creating a glowing, luminous atmosphere that contrasts with the soft matte textures surrounding it.

Keita Morimoto transforms urban streets into rich, cinematic backdrops. His paintings, in oil and acrylic on canvas, show his mastery of artificial light. Borrowing techniques from Baroque painters, Morimoto’s subjects pose under dramatic spotlights – a twist on Rembrandt's contrasting use of light and shadow. Yet, the soft focus on the central figures give the paintings the atmospheric haze of a video game. Combined with hyperrealist figuration, the result is uncanny – like snapshots from a parallel universe almost identical to our own.
