This landmark collaboration with the Estate of Roy Lichtenstein sees In the Car editioned for the first time since the artist's death.
In the Car (1963) is one of Pop Art's most famous images, belonging to the comic-book era that established Lichtenstein as one of the defining artists of the movement. Based on a panel by artist Tony Abruzzo from a 1961 issue of Girls' Romances – an imprint of DC Comics – the work depicts a mischievous-looking couple in a car, capturing the melodrama of pulp romance. Rendered in the artist's signature Ben-Day dots, bold outlines and vivid colour, it stands as a quintessential example of his pioneering visual language and 20th-century American art at large.
The expert printmakers at Make-Ready created this 7-layer limited edition silkscreen print in close collaboration with the Estate, carefully matching each colour against swatches Lichtenstein made during his lifetime precisely for this purpose. Each piece in the edition of 500 is created with the oversight of the Estate of Roy Lichtenstein and carries a bespoke stamp.
