La Nascita
With a new public installation, JR transforms the facade of Stazione di Milano Centrale into a rocky landscape. The deep gash of the trompe-l'oeil illusion blurs the boundaries of time and place, linking the grandeur of the station with the story behind its construction.

In 1906, the tunnelled foundations of the station were ambitiously constructed with rock excavated from the nearby Alps. JR adorns the station's facade with the hollowed mountain. At the end of the project, the aluminium installation will be melted down and re-used for JR's next artwork.
Travellers through the Piazza are invited to contemplate the human urge to explore whilst observing the installation.
The installation is on view at Piazza Duca d'Acosta, 20124 Milano from April 10 - May 1, 2024.
