Gabriel Moses

Gabriel Moses has youth on his side – “I work like a child, we all have imaginations, but I feel like we lose a lot of that with age.” The young director and photographer has already made a name for himself with his captivating portraits. Signature soft-lit light creates a rich canvas for storytelling around creativity – whether that’s music, dance, fashion. Gabriel shot to fame at eighteen years old when he landed a Nike campaign. After that, the milestones came in quick succession, from being Dazed magazine’s youngest cover photographer to a landmark debut at 180 Studios in London. The exhibition, Regina (2023), was a love letter to all that made him – his Nigerian heritage, his South London stomping grounds, and his mother. 

Gabriel’s portraits have the richness of oil paintings. His mastery of light and movement rivals the old masters, yet still feels new. This technical wizardry, however, was not studied in the traditional sense. Gabriel rarely visited museums and galleries as a child. Instead, he would pour over family photographs and his sister’s fashion magazines, asking himself why he liked an image – “is it the textures? The colours and the contrast of skin tones?” By trusting his eye and building on these natural instincts, Moses has carved out a space for himself amongst photography’s biggest names.
