I’ve always wanted to be an artist. I was captivated by Renaissance paintings from an early age — they felt like storybooks to me. Years later, after some major life events, I returned to the museum with my daughter. When she pointed out, ‘They don’t look like me,’ it revealed the deep exclusion at the heart of that tradition. That moment gave me purpose: I wanted to create art that could change perceptions and carry activism within it.

An ornate pair of prints by Harmonia Rosales weaves the story of Eve with Yoruba mythology.
Portrait of Eve & Eve and the Orishas were both originally painted in 2021 with oil and 24-carat gold leaf. Portrait of Eve serves as the cover of the artist's new book, Chronicles of Ori. It depicts the biblical matriarch crowned with a symbol of Ori, the Yoruba concept of spiritual intuition and destiny. Eve and the Orishas captures the essence of the book's themes, showing the diasporic Yoruba culture fighting to preserve identity against Western narratives.
These two archival pigment prints are finished with a matte varnish to emulate the textures in the original artworks. Portrait of Eve has an additional shimmer detail to enhance the prominent use of gold. Both editions have been carefully crafted by our artisan printmakers at Make-Ready in close collaboration with the artist.
