Johnson Tsang's new limited edition sculpture asks what it really means to live alongside others.
Alliance depicts a line of six cherubic baby faces, smooshed cheek-to-cheek in tender, almost suffocating closeness – capturing what Tsang describes as "the entangled, love-hate relationship between people". First created in 2021 under the title Coexistence, the work represents both the joys and challenges of co-living, intimacy and mutual support. For Tsang, the work carries a quietly radical message: that our identities are not prisons, but interpretations, and that we are always free to let go, and create new forms of self and community.
This limited edition sculpture was produced in close collaboration with the artist, showcasing his signature hyperreal sculptural techniques and instinctive touch that gives each character a life of its own
