Robert Longo

Released in support of Vote.org, Robert Longo’s new limited edition silkscreen print explores power, politics and the human condition. 

Untitled (Sandy) is one of the rarest and best-known figures from Longo’s Men in the Cities series, a collection of graphite and charcoal drawings based on photographs of the artist’s friends and contemporaries taken on the roof of his New York studio in the late 70s and early 80s. Longo used ropes, loud noises and threw objects at his models to achieve the surreal half dancing, half dying movements of his reference imagery – which was partially inspired by the final scenes of Fassbinder’s film The American Soldier (1970). 

Frequently imitated but rarely editioned, this release marks the second ever release of Men in the Cities as silkscreens – the first being our 2025 release of Untitled (Eric). Sandy has been deliberately produced at the same scale and dimensions as Eric for repeat collectors who may wish to display the two pieces together. 

Our master printmakers have used Longo’s original Kodak transparencies to craft this limited edition print, resulting in a high level of fidelity with the original charcoal drawing.
