Hideaki Kawashima paints soothing, surreal renditions of the ever-ambiguous human experience. His work sits within the Superflat movement, contributing to the establishment of rich new legacies for manga and anime-influenced figuration.

Our debut collaboration, Drawing, is based on an original work painted shortly after the artist’s mother passed away. The young subject – “in the most brilliant period of her life” – embodies his layered ruminations on life and death.

In this hand finished edition of Drawing, Hideaki has illustrated in pencil a changing motif upon each - either the reflection of the girl or a skull.

“I remember painting with extreme concentration, and it is indeed a work that I feel a strong sense of attachment to.”
