Shirin Neshat revisits a defining body of work in this new limited edition print.
Unveiling (1993) is a landmark series exploring the politics of women living in Islamic countries. Through striking black-and-white photographs, Shirin challenges Western perceptions of Muslim women, integrating text from radical feminist poet Forugh Farrokhzad, a household name in Iran. Rather than criticising the veil, Shirin probes its complexity, resisting the impulse to transpose Western feminist politics onto Islamic cultures.
This new edition reworks an iconic photograph from the series with additional silkscreen layers of handwritten Farsi calligraphy. The print has been carefully crafted in close collaboration with the artist at our London fine art print studio, Make-Ready.
