Bio
Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) was a pioneering American artist whose bold, graphic paintings helped define Pop Art. Drawing on comics, advertising and other forms of mass media, he transformed familiar imagery through crisp outlines, Ben-Day dot patterns and a distinctive sense of irony. His practice expanded across painting, sculpture and printmaking, continually exploring the relationship between popular culture and fine art. Lichtenstein’s work is held in around 150 major museum collections and has been exhibited in hundreds of solo exhibitions worldwide. The Estate of Roy Lichtenstein (ERL) preserves and promotes his artistic legacy, overseeing his archive and supporting the continued presentation and understanding of his work.
