Pensamiento-nube, originally painted in 2008, is a quintessential example of the hyperreal landscapes which have made Tomás one of the most important living Cuban artists. Inspired by the Romantics and his daily meditation practice, he creates incredibly detailed tropical scenes that encompass the physical wonder of the natural world and its immense spiritual power.
In this artwork, a small figure, possibly the artist himself, observes a lush canopy and vast sky – a moment where observation becomes meditation, as the title Thought - Cloud suggests.
