One of Lucian Freud’s earliest self-portraits becomes a new limited edition print from his Estate.
Reflection with Two Children (Self-Portrait), 1965 represents a breakthrough moment when Freud began experimenting with dual mirrors to create complex, disorienting compositions. The painting shows the artist twisting his body to study his own reflection in a mirror positioned on the floor, his concentrated gaze nodding to the physical effort required to paint himself in this position. Two small portraits of his children, Rose and Ali, appear in the lower corner, inspired by an ancient Egyptian tomb sculpture, Statue of Seneb and his Family.
This limited edition print on 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching paper faithfully reproduces the textured brushwork of Freud's original oil painting, showcasing his unflinching exploration of self-perception.
Reflection with Two Children (Self-Portrait), 1965 is one of four limited editions celebrating Freud's portraiture from 1953 to 2002.
